Upcoming 'downtown third thursdays' series

third thursdaydowntown manhattanHere's something for those of us who live and work downtown, plus everyone else interested in New York City. Starting on January 18th a new series of these outstanding lectures by authors, architects & scholars— and sometimes all three. They meet on site at various significant city buildings beginning next Thursday on the 52nd floor of 7 World Trade Center. Architect Rafael Viñoly discusses "THINK New York: A Ground Zero Diary" inside of NYC's first certified "green" office tower.

Upcoming lecturers include the author of a great book about Dutch, colonial, New Amsterdam; "Island at the Center of the World" Russel Shortoat the former U.S. Custom House building designed by Cass Gilbert— now home to the Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian; and Barbara Christen speaking about Cass Gilbert at 14 Vessy Street, an 18th Century Neo-Georgian building he designed.

For the complete schedule and locations, see the Alliance for Downtown New York's Web site Admission is free and each event begins at 7 pm, with the doors open at 6 pm.
