Sleepwalkers on 53rd Street

id_headroom.gif(click to enlarge image) Art imitates real estate, and changes the perception of both this month, in an interplay of art, architecture and city life, both real and imagined. Doug Aitken's 'sleepwalkers' is an enormous public work, that's being projected onto eight facades of the MoMA building. It promises to transform the building's site, and our point of view, inside out.

0870700456.01._AA_SCMZZZZZZZ_V49582862_.jpg Instead of playing it's usual role as a place that holds art, MoMA becomes the surface, and a part of it. The non-linear, narrative film follows 5 characters through a night in NYC. It features an international cast including Donald Southerland, British actress Tilda Swinton, and Brazilian star Seu Jorge. They've created a site for the exhibition, that includes more details about the project & it's artist, a film trailer and a map of the exhibition site. It is a joint project of MoMA & Creative Time, who also produced Jenny Holzer's 'For the City', which was projected onto various sites across NYC in 2005. Admission is free and there will even be commentary on the work, available on your cellphone.

Running nightly from 5 pm to 11 pm, through February 12th; Museum of Modern Art, 11 West 53rd Street. Happy sleepwalking.
